AMBALA: A team of GRP and
RPF at Ambala Cantonment on Saturday arrested a gang of five miscreants allegedly involved in theft incidents at various railway stations across the nation.
The officials said that the culprits have looted several railway stations including Saharanpur, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Moradabad, and Dehradoon.
The members are identified as Sunny Kumar (22), Shubam (20), Nirdosh (24), Monu (21) and Sagar Saini (23), residents of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, the Ambala GRP on Friday had received a complaint from Allahabad resident Krishan Prashad, who was stripped of his belongings, including Rs 5,000 by the alleged gang on October 22, while he was travelling by Chandigarh-Allahabad Unchahar express.
Krishan alleged that the culprits befriended him during the journey.
They poured him a cup of tea after consuming which he got unconscious and was later on found by the Tundla GRP, who took him to the civil hospital for treatment.
Subsequently on advice of Tundla GRP he filed a plaint with Ambala Cantonment railway authorities.
On receiving the complaint Ambala Cantonment’s GRP registered a case and arrested the culprits on Saturday.
“All the culprits were apprehended from platform one of the Ambala Cantonment railway station and the complainant has also identified them.
The culprits would be presented in a court to obtain order of a police remand,” said Ram Bachan, Station House Officer (SHO), GRP, Ambala Cantonment.
“The team also seized a small bottle of some unidentified drug which was used by the culprits to make the passengers unconscious,” he added.
